We know that you care about what is happening around you but the info is not always easy to access. Here are a few ways to make sure you never miss a beat and stay up to date with city news.

  1. Connect with the city online. Subscribe to The City of Boston Newsletter, visit city website, and get info about what is going on from the many news sources throughout the city.
  2. Follow your representatives and agencies on social media. Mayor Marty Walsh and the City of Boston are just two of the many twitter accounts in Boston on social media. Other city departments have their own Facebook and Twitter accounts that are available to give you information, find all of them here.
  3. Learn about Boston’s history. In order to have a better understanding of Boston today, it is important to understand the city’s rich history. Walk the Freedom Trail, go to one of the many museums throughout the city, or do some of your own research online.
  4. Join a community organization. Whether it is a sports league, volunteer organization, an art group, or an advocacy group, getting involved goes a long way. Choosing to get involved in something that is important to you, will help you address any issues that arise to your government.
  5. Attend public meetings. Neighborhood nights, community meetings, and city meetings are the perfect opportunity to have your voice heard. It is important to speak up for what you believe in and have a voice in the greater community. Being engaged with the city is the best way to see changes.

Cool Off This Summer

Lucky for Bostonians, the City of Boston is located right on the water. Many Bostonians head to the Cape or the North Shore on the weekends, but there is no need when there are miles of great waterfront available to us in our neighborhoods or just a MBTA stop away.

  1. Revere Beach: As America’s first public beach, Revere Beach is a quick ride away. The 2-mile beach is the perfect place for sunbathers and beach lovers alike. Take the MBTA Blue Line to Wonderland station and it is just a short walk to the beach.
  2. Carson Beach: Less than a half-mile walk from the Red Line’s JFK-UMass station, Carson Beach is an easy beach to get to. The Seaside Cafe offers visitors chowder, hot dogs, hamburgers, and cold drinks for all your summer cravings.
  3. Winthrop Beach: Close to the city for quick jaunts when you don’t have the time to go to the Cape or the North Shore, Winthrop Beach has a nice local charm and is located right outside of East Boston in Winthrop. Grab a zipcar or the bus and head out to Winthrop for the day.
  4. L and M Street Beaches: L and M Beaches are adjacent to one another in South Boston. These local beaches have great amenities including places for sunning on the sandy beaches, picnicking, and swimming.
  5. Malibu and Savin Hill Beaches: Take the Red Line to Slavin Hill. Take a right on Slavin Hill and a right onto Denny Street, and the beach will be at the end of the street.

No matter how old you are, breakfast remains the best way to start the day. Young Professionals in Boston love their breakfasts, brunches, and everything in-between.  Here are a few of our favorites around the city that will help you start your day off right.

Blackbird Doughnuts in the South End is a perfect stop to grab a bite to eat on the way to work. This small shop may have no indoor seating, but with warm weather on the way, Blackbird Doughnuts is the best place to get unique gourmet doughnuts made from scratch. Come watch the team crank out their inventive baked goods which combine interesting flavors with classic flavors.

Bagelsaurus located in Cambridge is a bagel bakeshop and cafe that specializes in handmade, slow-fermented bagels. These undeniably great bagels sell out almost daily. Not only are the bagels great, but this location is also an awesome place to hang out.

The Thinking Cup offers customers the “best coffee in the world” from Portland Oregon. With three locations-the outskirts of the Boston Common, the Back Bay, and the North End- the cafe has more to offer than just coffee. From breakfast sandwiches to croissants to scones, Thinking Cup is exactly what you want from a cafe.

Mike and Patty’s is located in Bay Village. As Boston’s highest rated breakfast and sandwich shop, Mike and Patty’s will not disappoint. Their focus on serving the highest quality ingredients in their sandwiches explains why Boston Magazine’s Best of Boston awarded them with the best breakfast sandwich in 2014.

If you have time for a sit-down meal, make sure The Galley Diner in South Boston is on your list of places to go. Named “Best Diner” by Boston Magazine in 2013 and 2014, the small breakfast joint is a must try.

North Street Grille is a tiny spot for hefty plates. North Street Grille is a great place to meet with friends or coworkers for a sit down breakfast in the North End.

Thornton’s Restaurant offers a wide range of breakfast dishes. Located in the heart of Fenway-Kenmore, this breakfast spot is in the perfect location. With both indoor and outdoor seating, it has everything to satisfy your breakfast cravings.

Thank you Dorchester

Last night 40 young professionals came together to meet their neighbors and celebrate summer. We would like to thank Blarney Stone for hosting us as well as the Society of Grown Ups, Boston’s sort of masters program for adulthood, for donating three classes that were raffled off. Join us for our next Neighborhood Night and explore a new area in Boston!
