“I started working at Excel Academy Charter School 10 years ago, when I was starting out in my career as a math teacher. I quickly realized that it was a special place, and I’ve been here ever since. Our families are incredibly warm and supportive, and they want so much for their kids to succeed in academics and in life. It’s been so rewarding to see Excel grow into a network of four schools, including the best public middle schools in Massachusetts. Now, as the Head of School at Excel Academy’s East Boston campus, and as a new parent who lives and works in Boston, I’m even more proud to be spending my days with amazing students and teachers all focused on living the dream of a high-quality, free, public education in our city.”

“I helped launch our first Workplace Mentoring Program at BBBSMB (Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay), connecting Boston elementary school students with adult mentors in the workforce.  Children are able to visit mentors at their places of employment, gaining exposure to the work environment and local Boston businesses.  I now oversee several unique Workplace Mentoring Programs, which also provide Boston professionals with an opportunity to form deeper connections to their own community.  Not only are the individual relationships being formed, but new partnerships between local Boston schools and businesses are expanding an awareness of and connection to the community.   Having a social work background, BBBSMB has provided me with the unique opportunity to create trainings and develop learning materials to increase the expertise of our staff and in turn, provide our matches with the best possible support.”

“My grandmother came to Boston from Jamaica back in the 1960s. She worked tirelessly as a nurse’s aide to bring all 10 of her children to America two by two. Her work ethic has always been an inspiration for me. I grew up in Milton, MA where I saw the impact of workforce opportunities on a family’s socio-economic development. It became very clear to me that success comes from thinking strategically about your career. On June 26, 2020 my grandmother passed away. In July 2014, I started my own company, The Tech

Connection, in Dudley Sq. My company helps underrepresented Software Engineers and IT professionals rock their career. I love my company and have an undying passion for increasing
diversity in the tech industry. I currently live in Dorchester and I am proud to be #BOSTONMAde.”
