Civic Sense Happy Hour Friday: Let’s Talk Unions

Friday is the big day where we let our inner politics and policy nerds out.

Join ONEin3 and MassINC for Civic Sense Happy Hour this Friday night for some discussion, some hanging out and some cocktails.

As promised, we’ve found a topic we think will be juicy: What is the role of unions in 21st Century America?

In light of the events in Wisconsin this past week, we were reflecting on unions in general, public sector unions in particular and also on recent union related activity here in Massachusetts.

So, we picked State of the Unions by James Surowiecki from the January 17th issue of The New Yorker as our discussion piece.

It might be helpful to read up on some more background about public sector unions in Massachusetts and beyond as well.

Some other good places to start:

Of course, you don’t have to read ANY of these articles. You can come just to hang out. That’s cool too!

Date: Friday, March 4th

Time: 6:00-9:00pm

Location: Emmet’s, 6 Beacon Street, Beacon Hill

See you there!

Attention Fans of Policy and Politics: Civic Sense Happy Hour, March 4th

Here at ONEin3 HQ, we’ve been kicking around the idea of a regular and informal get together for people interested in policy and politics for quite a while.

We obviously never got it done, but now we have a perfect partner in MassINC, a Boston think tank devoted to studying and improving life for the Massachusetts Middle Class.

Together, ONEin3 and MassINC are launching Civic Sense Happy Hour, a monthly event for civic and politically minded young people to come together over cocktails and conversation.

Once a month, we will jointly host a Friday event after work. For each event, we’ll suggest an interesting article that people can talk about (or not!) at the event.

The goal of these events is to create a community of young people with an interest in policy, politics and government.

Our first event will be on Friday, March 4th. Here are details:

Date: Friday, March 4th

Time: 6:00-9:00pm

Location: Emmet’s, 6 Beacon Street, Beacon Hill

RSVP: Facebook or Eventbrite

Article to Read: We will announce the theme article the week of the event so stay tuned!

Civic Sense Happy Hours are part of MassINC’s Civic Sense series, which focuses research, polling and discussion on the issues of young people in Massachusetts.

They have some great, larger scale events in the pipeline so be sure to keep an eye on their calendar.

The New Faces of Politics in Massachusetts

As you may know, at ONEin3 HQ we believe pretty strongly in the importance of young people getting involved in the political process. Working on campaigns is a great way to get involved but you know what’s better? Running for office! And you know what’s better than running for office? WINNING AN ELECTION!

Well, MassINC is putting on a cool event featuring young people who have had the courage to run for office AND are currently sitting office holders.

Come hear Boston City Councillor Ayanna Pressley and several other trailblazers talk about why they ran, what campaigning is like and what they hope to accomplish. We’ll be there and we hope you will be too!

Date: Wednesday, September 29, 2020

Time: Program begins at 6pm - Networking reception with passed hors d’oeuvres to follow

Location: Ned Devine’s, 1 Fanueil Hall Market, Boston
