9/24 @ Venu — Help artsy and entrepreneurial young Bostonians pursue their purpose

Come out, support a great organization, and get some culture while you’re at it!

One of ONEin3′s own is the founder of the Duplessy Foundation, a local non-profit with the mission to mentor 18-24 year olds not in four-year colleges with an interest in the arts and entrepreneurship.

To support their mentoring work, the Foundation is putting on a showcase featuring local comedians, fashion designers, chefs, and visual artists, in addition to letting more people know about our program. All the proceeds will go towards the Purpose Fellows program, which you can learn more about here: http://duplessy.org/

The event is coming up this weekend! Show your support on Saturday (9/24) from 7-10pm at Venu (100 Warrenton St, Boston, MA 02116) in the theatre district. If you want to learn more, get tickets or donate, here is the link below:http://duplessy.org/events/artists-celebration

Thanks ONEin3 Mayor’s Council member Derrick Duplessy for word about the event and for putting the whole thing together!

Looking for a meaningful networking event?

There are so many networking opportunities out there, but it can be tough to know what you’re gonna get. Take control of your box of chocolates, and check out a Boston World Partnerships event!

Boston World Partnerships is a non-profit organization, created by Mayor Menino to raise global awareness of Boston as one of the world’s foremost centers of intellectual capital and innovation, offering tremendous competitive advantages to growth-minded businesses. Needless to say, there are some pretty cool Bostonians involved.

Lucky for you, there’s a mixer coming up on Tuesday, September 20, at the Hyatt Regency starting at 6pm. Details for that event and others on the BWP calendar can be found here:
http://www.bostonworldpartnerships.com/events/.

And check out the rest of the website for other great professional development opportunities as well.

Metro Boston Leads the Nation in Real GDP Growth

Courtesy of the fine folks at Universal Hub, the Bureau of Economic Analysis just reported that of the largest metropolitan areas in the country, METRO BOSTON had the fastest real GDP growth in the country in 2010!

This map shows how other metro areas compare. The associated article also talks about which industries were growing and affecting metropolitan areas (wholesale, durable-goods manufacturing, retail, financial activity). Interestingly, construction was described as detracting from growth. There’s more detail if you’re interested at www.bea.gov.

As one of Boston’s economic development initiatives, ONEin3 was pretty excited to read about this. It’s been a while since we’ve had a conversation through this website, but does anybody have thoughts about where there’s the greatest potential for continued growth here in Boston? Post your thoughts in the comments.
