Mayor Menino Announces “Plugging in” of Boston’s First-Ever LED-Powered Street Name Sign

Mayor Thomas M. Menino today announced the “plugging in” of Boston’s first-ever LED-powered street name sign.  The sign, visible tonight at the intersection of Washington and Winter streets in the Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) area, is the first in a pilot program to test the new technology in Boston’s winter conditions.

“These signs look great, and I’m so glad they’re going up just in time for holiday shopping season,” Mayor Menino said.  “These signs will literally serve as a beacon, drawing shoppers into the BID to do their holiday shopping here, and helping shoppers, visitors, and everyone in between find their way around downtown Boston.”
